Giant Apple Cinnamon Roll. A few years back we sta Giant Apple Cinnamon Roll. A few years back we started a tradition of making 3 of these with the apples we picked in the fall. We eat one immediately, freeze one for Christmas morning, and give one away.

Because of the storm “Elliott” our Christmas morning looked a little different this year, but we were able to make it fun and delicious with decorating pancakes. Then we ate our roll the following morning. We added pomegranate this year. That was a great addition.

I had never seen edible butterflies before. They are so fun and the kids loved them.

Smoked turkey broth. When your family has the stom Smoked turkey broth. When your family has the stomach flu, turkey noodle soup to the rescue.

We smoked a turkey last weekend and now we are making a broth. I freeze onions skins, herb stems, celery and carrot ends, garlic scape flowers, leek greens and other food scrapes from earlier this summer to simmer with the bones to give the broths more dimension and have less food waste.

This group of people are some of the most talented culinary educators and directors (including @the_real_bionic_chef who couldn’t make it). Their passion for teaching and helping generations of people learn how to cook and live healthily is inspiring. Such a joyous and DELICIOUS evening.

Frost advisory tonight and tomorrow. Such a bummer Frost advisory tonight and tomorrow. Such a bummer because then it’ll go back up to 80 degrees. I tried to move a bunch of things inside and cut some of the flowers to dry, but there are so many things that just aren’t ready for this frost.

Let’s hope for a mild frost.
1 - celosia, globe amaranth (also cut lavender, sage, hydrangea) to dry for decorations.
2 & 3- lemongrass to give away, bring inside to lay dormant for next spring, and some to freeze and dry.
4 - tumeric, ginger, rosemary, and coffee to bring inside (we’ll harvest these (except the coffee) during the winter.
5 - pumpkins and bottle gourds not quite ready. I’m hoping to get at least one bottle gourd to mature enough to make a birdhouse or a bowl.
6 - luffa, so prolific but we don’t have a long enough growing season. I’m hoping it can survive this frost to try to get some to be a little more mature before cutting and letting them dry inside.
7 - cotton. I’m hoping the frost will open them up.
